I often wish I could pause the clock and multiply the hours in the day (as mentioned here). I’m easily convinced I can do anything if I set my heart and mind to it (and if I can’t, I’d like to prove to myself that I can), but time is a human limitation I can’t seem to outrun. There’s SO much I want to DO! At the end of the day, I’m not a human “doing,” but a human “being,” and my identity isn’t found in what I do, but who I am. And while my life is full of things I LOVE, even some good things must be pruned away so that new growth can bloom (prune and bloom in 2017 👊).
As for identity, I guess “being” might seem an uncomfortable state if you’re not quite sure who you are. If days are numbered and time is limited, then what is this all about? Why are you here? Are you living in disguise? Busy spinning your wheels? Is there a goal?...purpose?...what’s the point?
[Define "incognito": an assumed or false identity; having one’s true identity concealed.
Synonyms: under an assumed name, under a false name, in disguise, under cover, camoflauged]
Maybe you clearly know who you are—maybe you even know exactly why you were put on this earth (for such a time as this) but you find yourself running in the rat race of “doing,” even at the start of a New Year. Among our goals and resolutions, let’s remember that if we live based on the rules of a diet, regimen, or religion, we’ll ultimately disappoint ourselves. Live within boundaries, relationship and health, and you’ll fall into a balance and rhythm to a sustainable race.
“Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-2
Time is to Daniel Wellington as incognito is to camo. WHOA. Pulling this whole thing together! Speaking of DW, I have not one, but two Daniel Wellington watches now…does that put me in the Instagram cool kids club? I seem to care so much about such things. 😉 All joking aside, my DW (find my same one here) puts life into perspective when I get into my "doing" mode, reminding me to live with pace and purpose. (I also have this one.) I wore the satin pleated camo skirt multiple times last week…and the satin frilly bomber, well—it speaks for itself.
Find your pace and run with grace…as only you can. Find your purpose and run with endurance…as only you can.
Much love,
Jess
